GreenHarvest Needs Assessment & Preliminary Research Completed

As part of the GreenHarvest project, we carried out a comprehensive Needs Assessment & Preliminary Research process to better understand the real needs, challenges and expectations of farmers, agricultural professionals, young people and local stakeholders.

This activity was an important first step in shaping the future educational outputs of the project. Through focus group meetings, stakeholder consultations and online questionnaires, project partners collected valuable feedback from different agricultural contexts. The findings clearly show that farmers and agricultural stakeholders are facing increasing pressure due to rising production costs, climate change, drought, water scarcity and the need for more practical knowledge on sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

One of the key results of the assessment is that awareness of regenerative agriculture is still developing. Many participants are already familiar with environmentally friendly farming practices, but they need clearer, more practical and field-based guidance on how to apply regenerative methods in their own production systems.

The research also highlighted several priority training needs. Participants expressed strong interest in soil health and soil regeneration, efficient water management, climate-resilient agriculture, reducing pesticide use, cost-efficient farming practices, organic agriculture, agroforestry and carbon farming. These topics will directly guide the development of the GreenHarvest Educational Toolkit, training videos and digital learning materials.

Another important finding is the clear preference for practical learning. Participants emphasized that field demonstrations, applied training sessions, local examples, short educational videos and easy-to-understand guides would be the most useful learning formats. This shows that GreenHarvest should not only provide theoretical knowledge, but also support farmers and stakeholders with concrete, applicable and accessible learning resources.

The Needs Assessment & Preliminary Research process confirmed the relevance and importance of the GreenHarvest project. The results demonstrate a strong demand for practical, inclusive and future-oriented educational materials that can support the transition towards more sustainable, climate-resilient and regenerative agricultural systems.

By listening to the needs of local stakeholders from the very beginning, GreenHarvest ensures that its future activities and outputs are grounded in real field realities and respond directly to the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
